Description: Chromosome analysis of cultured blood cells using staining techniques to investigate chromosome number and banding patterns
Clinical: Suspected trisomy: Down syndrome (trisomy 21), Edwards syndrome (trisomy 18), Patau syndrome (trisomy 13); Turner syndrome (45,X), Klinefelter syndrome (47,XXY);translocations; dysmorphism; multiple miscarriage
Methodology: Short term culture (72 hour) of T-lymphocytes. Harvest. Staining and analysis/karyotyping.
Turn around time: 10 days
Transit stability: 2-3 days
Comments: Do not spin if sample taken in a green-topped tube with gel.
Sample: Blood heparinised 4 ml
